We have tried to make this site as easily navigable as possible, with many topical indexes to help you get around. At the top of every page is a navigation bar. (If you can't see it, you may have images disabled in your browser or your firewall software may have mistaken it for an advertisement. Of course, if you can't see it, you probably cannot find this explanation either.) Each tab leads to the introduction to a major section of the website. The blue tab tells you which section of site you are in no matter what page you are reading. Clicking on any tab will lead to an introduction to the section and a full explanation of the material in that section. An understanding of how the site is organised should greatly facilitate finding information. It is also important to understand the scope of this site -- what you can and cannot expect to find here. This website is organised into three main hierarchical concepts:
The more general level-of-specificity pages -- countries and wars -- exist primarily to lend context to the regiment pages. Topics that are broader than the history of a single regiment will be found on the country and war pages. Since most wars are at least bilateral affairs between nations, war-related topics are grouped on a war page rather being dispersed redundantly on two or more country pages. In July 2004 the site was reorganised to provide top-level introductions to "Formations", "Tradition" and "Biography". These sections complement the regiments, wars and nations pages with information that tend to be international in scope. Click on those tabs to find out more about the scope of those sections. The "Search" tab gives alternate options for navigating the site, but please do not rely on it exclusively since indexing by the search engines is limited and much can missed when not availing yourself of the serendipity factor of browsing our extensive indexes. When using the search features it is usually best to avoid using abbreviations. The "Commerce" tab leads to a major collection of commercial resources (books, militaria, auctions, collectors, etc.) of interest to readers of this site. |
