1787.10.12 75th (Highland) Regiment of Foot
raised by EIC for service in India when war with the French was imminent, but, the danger having passed, EIC refused to support or embark the regiment, whereupon Parliament passed the East India Declaratory Act requiring that troops deemed necessary for the security of overseas territories be supported by revenues from those territories (see also 74th Foot, 76th Foot and 77th Foot)
